What Arizona requires
Arizona's History & Social Science graduation block requires 3 credits, including one-half credit of Economics. SB 1184 (2019) amended that Economics requirement so it 'shall include financial literacy and personal financial management,' covering budgeting, saving, spending, credit, banking, and insurance. No separate course or credit was created — schools deliver the content within the existing Economics semester, so actual class time devoted to personal finance varies by district.
Since 2018 Arizona has also offered a voluntary State Seal of Personal Finance Proficiency (A.R.S. §15-260), earned through an approved curriculum, a proficiency assessment, co-curricular financial activity, and a college/career-readiness component. A 2024 bill (SB 1058) to require a fully separate standalone personal-finance course failed on the Senate floor, so the embedded-only model remains current.
